An age old question. In today’s video we’re talking about misconceptions about the purpose of an ab mat and why you may or may not want to use one.

A common assumption is that it’s for comfort and support on your back. For thinner athletes, that may be the case since it keeps your spine off the ground. The main reason is to increase the range of motion for a sit up. It’s a little more challenging than a regular sit up, but not quite as difficult as a GHD sit up. In the video, I demonstrate why that happens and talk about the dreaded sit up “raspberries”.
