We cannot believe the amount of progress Kayla has made since she started and we hope she’s as proud as we are! Coach Anita always tells her she’s an engine and it’s because of the effort she puts into workouts. She just keeps moving and we’ve seen so much progress because of it, in her fitness and mentality. It sounds cliche, but hard work really does pay off. Kayla proves it every week! This month’s award is exciting for a couple reasons! 1. Kayla is awesome! 2. This is our first Member of the Month nominated by our members! Thank you for voting! Now let’s learn more about Kayla.
1. Why did you start CrossFit?
After playing a sport in college, I struggled to maintain a consistent fitness routine on my own. Traditional gyms felt uninspiring, and home workouts became a chore. I was ready to find something that would keep me motivated and accountable—something I enjoyed. When I joined FreeWill CrossFit, I quickly appreciated its structure, coaching, and community.
2. What advice would you give yourself before starting CrossFit?
If I could give myself advice before starting CrossFit, it would be to trust in my abilities. Early on, I convinced myself there were certain movements I would never be able to do. But after just a year, I achieved things I once thought weren’t possible—like getting the hang of double unders and doing a handstand push-up. CrossFit has definitely shifted my mindset and boosted my confidence.
3. What are your nutrition goals for the next 6 months?
My main nutrition goal for the next six months is to build more consistency in my meals. During the workday, I often find myself skipping breakfast or grabbing whatever’s quick. To improve this, I plan to wake up earlier and be more intentional with meal planning, ensuring I stay on track with my nutrition throughout the day.
4. How do you feel about burpees? Don’t hold back
I’m actually a fan of burpees…but in small sets!
5. What are you reading or watching right now? Would you recommend it?
Of course, this question comes just as I’m rewatching Jersey Shore. If it’s been a while, I’d recommend it for the nostalgia!
