We are so excited to talk about Leigh Ann this month! Although she was nervous to get back into exercise, she trusted us to take care of her and bring her along slowly. She made a deal with herself that, if she was going to do this, she was going to REALLY committ. And did she ever!! Now, you’ll most likely see her over at our goal board, crossing off the latest accomplishment and writing the next one. She was nice enough to take a break from crushing goals to answer a few questions about herself and why she does CrossFit!
1. What were your goals when you started CrossFit?
Just to show up & keep showing up. I came ready with excuses why I couldn’t do CrossFit. Coach Alex suggested my 1st class be the day after our meeting. I agreed. Then he told me it was squat day…squat-palooza. “I can’t do squats. Pick another day.” Coach Alex wasn’t having it. Guess who showed up for squat day? Me. Guess who couldn’t get on & off the toilet for a week without holding onto the window ledge?
2. How long have you been at Free Will CrossFit?
I joined in 2019. I was 250# at the time and needed to get my act together (my PR for highest weight was 340#…yup..that’s not a typo). Then Covid hit. PERFECT excuse not to exercise. I dropped out. I’ve lost 120# since. I can NOT and will NOT gain the weight back (again!). So, I re-signed in August 2023.
3. What is one health/fitness goal that you plan to achieve in the next 6 months?
My health goal is to maintain my weight loss, work on mindful eating & get my night-time snack-fests under control. My fitness goal is still the same…keep showing up! Though it will be awesome to eventually be one of the bad-ass barbell droppers.
4. What do you do for a living?
I am a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). On the side, I sub-in as Veterinary Technician for a couple vet hospitals and lower-cost spay/neuter clinics.
5. You have control of the music. What artists/songs will dominate the playlist?
What artists/songs will dominate the playlist? Does this mean I get the remote for the month of March? Get ready to be confused…90’s hip hop sprinkled with some Disco/70’s pop, “angry” music (Rage Against the Machine/Limp Bizkit) topped off with lots of 90’s rock.
