We are super excited to give a shout out to this little ray of sunshine! She hit the ground running on day 1 and hasn’t looked back, becoming a regular on our committed club and the unofficial hype woman for our early morning classes! Scroll down to learn more about Tracy!
1. When did you start with us and what inspired you to start CrossFit?
I started this year in May 2021. After 5 and a half months, I still consider myself a “newbie” because I am learning the vocabulary terms for each movement and the appropriate form. I’ve always belonged to a gym or activity/sport where I was able to exercise and push my body physically and mentally. Living a healthy lifestyle is so important to me. I am wired to workout every day if possible. After meeting Jackie Parks (through daycare), she told me about Crossfit and I was intrigued. After the first fundamentals class, I was hooked.
2. What is your best advice for someone just starting CrossFit?
I would suggest being patient and ask questions. I am constantly asking for clarification and that has allowed me to better understand the moves, pace, and technique. Give yourself permission to feel vulnerable and try new moves or heavier weights. Who knows what you can do unless you try!
3. What is your favorite kind of workout? Favorite movement?
I enjoy most if not all of the workouts. I can’t decide. I do appreciate moving from station to station (AMRAP). Anything with a handstand or climbing rope I enjoy. I really like doing pull-ups too (since I have a goal of getting a strict pull-up!) I do like working on getting better at my OH snatches! Those are fun too!
4. What do you do for a living?
I am a 5th grade Elementary School Teacher. I have been teaching 5th grade for the past 12 years. I love my job and the kids and their enthusiasm to learn and be challenged. I am also a mother of two little girls (ages 3 and 5). They certainly keep me busy!
5. What’s your favorite activity/hobby outside the gym?
Oh, that is a tough one! I have several favorite activities. I LOVE rock climbing (indoor and outdoor) and hope to do more of it. I am an avid disc golfer and love playing this sport both competitively and for fun. I even have a disc golf basket in my classroom for my students to learn and practice putting and two outdoor baskets for driving and playing a few holes with my class. Finally, I love yoga (power vinyasa) and all of the benefits it brings.
